Julia Roos is an associate professor in the department of history at Indiana University, Bloomington. She is the author of Weimar through the Lens of Gender: Prostitution Reform, Woman’s Emancipation, and German Democracy, 1919-1933 (Ann Arbor: University of Michigan Press, 2010). Her current research focuses on the racist propaganda campaign against France’s African occupation troops in the Rhineland after World War I. Her most recent article on this topic is “Racist Hysteria to Pragmatic Rapprochement? The German Debate about Rheinish ‘Occupation Children,’ 1920-1930,” which appeared in the May 2013 issue of Contemporary European History.
