Alicia E. Ellis is associate professor of German and Chair of the Department of German and Russian at Colby College in Maine. Ellis earned a doctorate in Germanic Languages and Literatures and a Master’s degree in African American Studies at Yale University. She is the author of the forthcoming book Gender and Identity in Franz Grillparzer’s Classical Dramas: Figuring the Female (Lexington Books). Her research interests include German literature of the long nineteenth century, Black Europe, Anglophone and Francophone literatures, African-American literature, Comparative Literature, and Women’s and Gender Studies. Ellis has written and lectured broadly. Authors include Edwidge Danticat, Andrea Levy, Sam Selvon, Ossip Mandelstam, Heinrich Heine, and Heinrich von Kleist.
