“Adopting Diaspora: Black American Military Women and Germany’s ‘Brown Babies’
Felicitas Rütten Jaima received her Master’s degree in U.S. History from Seton Hall University. Currently a Ph.D. candidate at New York University, she has been studying the history of the African Diaspora under the supervision of Dr. Michael A. Gomez and Dr. Martin Klimke. Her dissertation research investigates the experiences of African American military women and wives in West Germany between the postwar years and the late 1970s. As an associate scholar of “The Civil Rights Struggle, African American GIs, and Germany” she has conducted interviews with former servicewomen and military spouses.
