Maria Diedrich

Maria I. Diedrich holds a Chair in American Studies at the Westphalian Wilhelms-University Münster, Germany. One of the founders of the Collegium for African American Research (CAAR), she served as Founding President from 1992-2001.

Among her books are Cornelia James Cannon and the Future American Race (2011), Love Across Color Lines: Ottilie Assing and Frederick Douglass (1999); The Black Columbiad (with W. Sollors, 1994); and From Black to Schwarz: Cultural Crossovers between Africa America and Germany (with J. Heinrichs 2010).

Her current research focuses the fate of African Americans who joined the Hessians during the American Revolution and accompanied the returning Hessian troops the Germany in 1783.
