Olivette Otele · 2020 · Hurst · English
African Europeans: An Untold History examines the long history of people of African descent in Europe, from antiquity through the present. Otele connects individual lives with wider questions of race, citizenship, power, and historical memory.
Why read it?
This book offers a wider European context for Black German history. It helps readers place German histories alongside other African European experiences and challenges the assumption that Black presence in Europe began only with recent migration.
Readers exploring early Black European histories, colonialism, and belonging can use it as an introduction to connections across periods and national borders.
