Austria · Movement history, research & remembrance

PAMOJA — the Movement of the Young African Diaspora in Austria — is a significant part of the history of Black self-organization in Austria. Araba Evelyn Johnston-Arthur is a co-founder of PAMOJA and of the research group on Black Austrian history and the present.

Their work challenges the marginalization of Black histories and connects historical research with artistic intervention, collective memory, and anti-racist activism. Johnston-Arthur’s practice asks whose experiences are remembered, whose knowledge is recognized, and how communities can reclaim space within public history.

This profile highlights the movement and its historical and research contributions. The sources below document PAMOJA and Johnston-Arthur’s work rather than serving as a current membership or service directory.
